Stockbridge
Personal Injury Lawyer
Stockbridge is not in Clayton County. It is in Henry County, its courts are in McDonough, and Superior and State Court are not even in the same building.
That is the most useful thing to know about a Stockbridge injury claim, and it is the thing people most often get wrong. Stockbridge sits in northwestern Henry County, roughly twenty miles south of Atlanta, off I-75 and I-675.
Two courts, two buildings, one county
Henry County’s courts sit in McDonough, not in Stockbridge — and they do not share an address with one another.
- Superior Court of Henry County
- Flint Judicial Circuit, which is Henry County alone. At Courthouse Square in McDonough. A court of general jurisdiction, with exclusive jurisdiction over felony jury trials, divorce, equity and title to land.
- State Court of Henry County
- At the Henry County Judicial Center on John Frank Ward Boulevard in McDonough. Misdemeanours including traffic, plus civil actions outside Superior Court’s exclusive list. Both courts can hear an auto negligence case.
A city a great many people drive through without living in
I-675’s southern terminus is at I-75 in northwestern Stockbridge, and SR 138 interchanges with I-75 inside the city, signed North Henry Boulevard and running concurrently with US 23 and SR 42. US 23 is the main road through the centre of town.
What that adds up to is a lot of traffic belonging to people who live somewhere else — and for a Georgia-resident defendant, venue follows that defendant rather than the crash. Under Ga. Const. Art. VI, Sec. II, Para. VI a civil case is tried where the defendant resides; under O.C.G.A. § 9-10-31(b), where joint tortfeasors live in different counties, the suit may be brought in any county where one of them resides. Out-of-state drivers and motor carriers each come under a venue statute of their own, either of which can keep the case in the county where the collision happened. A Stockbridge wreck is quite capable of being a Clayton, Fulton or DeKalb County case, and quite capable of staying in Henry. Working out which, early, is not a formality — it decides where you will be spending your time.
The hospital, and the records it keeps
Piedmont Henry Hospital has 259 beds and was designated a Level III trauma center in 2023. That is a fact about a facility, and we will leave it there. We are not going to tell you where an ambulance would take you, because that is decided by protocol in the moment and not by a law firm’s web page.
What we will say is that hospital records run long, and that reading all of them rather than the discharge summary is how an injury noted once and never followed up gets found. Insurers read the gaps in treatment; so should your lawyer, and before they do.
Getting there
There is no MARTA service in Stockbridge at all — Henry is not a MARTA county, and commuter service here is Xpress. If your vehicle is gone, transport to medical appointments and to McDonough for court is something to plan for rather than assume.
Georgia allows two years from the date of injury to file a personal injury suit, and four years for a spouse’s loss of consortium claim (O.C.G.A. § 9-3-33). The clock does not pause while you are working out which county you are in.

Georgia law changes. Statutes are amended and courts reinterpret them, so anything stated as law on this page — including any statute cited — may already be out of date. Check the current law, and how it applies to your own facts, before you rely on it.
